The Akçakoca Central Mosque, which stands out with its unusual appearance in the city center, is notable for its contemporary architecture, unlike other mosques built with a single dome system. The mosque, whose foundation was laid in 1989 and opened to service in 2004, has a dome height of 31 meters and a minaret height of 58 meters. The mosque, which synthesizes Turkish and modern architecture, is the only example of this type of architecture in Türkiye. Its most distinctive architectural feature is that instead of the classic single-roof system, it has a roof system inspired by Turkish yurt tents, built on octagonal corners used in Seljuk architecture. While the interior is decorated with stained glass, 32 tons of copper plates were used in the dome coverings. Built with inspiration from Seljuk yurts, the mosque is equipped to meet many social needs in addition to areas where religious duties can be performed.
