How to Get There: Sarıkaya Cave, 81950 Sarıkaya Village, Yığılca/DÜZCE. Distance between Düzce and Yığılca: 38 kilometers, Yığılca to Sarıkaya Village: 5 kilometers, Sarıkaya Village to Sarıkaya Cave: 1.5 kilometers.
Sarıkaya Cave is a semi-active fossil cave, developed in a semi-horizontal sloping manner within Paloecene-Lower Eocene limestones, and situated in a sinkhole-like location. Registered as a First Degree Archaeological Site, the cave has a total length of 717 meters, with the main gallery being 510 meters long, 80 meters wide, 75 meters high, and with a ceiling height of 15-40 meters. Located in Yığılca District, Sarıkaya Cave is particularly noteworthy for its ceiling height and structural features.
The chamber contains fossils and young stalactite formations from two developmental periods. In the center of the chamber is a small waterfall formed by a stream from the Aksu River, and a canyon-valley belonging to the second phase, with a depth increasing by 17 meters from its initial formation. Situated in a sinkhole on a plateau deeply incised by the Melen River, the cave collects surface water from its immediate surroundings and drains it into the Aksu Cave and the Melen River.
